Arsenal Beat United On Penalties To Win The FA Cup

7 years ago today (May 21, 2005) Arsenal beat Manchester United on penalties to lift the FA Cup in Cardiff's Millennium stadium. After a turgid 120 minutes, which saw Arsene Wenger's side battered left, right and centre, Patrick Vieira slotted home the decisive spot-kick with his last kick in an Arsenal shirt.

Lauren, Ashley Cole, Freddie Ljungberg and Robin van Persie also netted from 12 yards, while Jens Lehmann's save from Paul Scholes demonstrated a know-how that would come in useful during the following season's Champions League run.

Russian Speaking Gooners take Kiev by Storm

Back in November we posted this great video of the Arsenal Russian Speaking Supporters Club (ARSSC) getting together in Minsk to watch the Gunners destroy Chelsea 5-3 at Stamford Bridge.

This time it was Kiev’s chance to host the gang, as they watched the rollercoaster last home game of the season against Norwich.

You’ll no doubt recognise some of the guys and gals from Twitter as they eat, drink, eat, drink…drink, drink, drink…watch the game, celebrate, commiserate, drink some more, take over the city centre, visit a fairground, drink and then take a boat ride!

Looks like it was a great day. Cheers to @DmitryMD for sending the link and and a tip of the cap to video director Stas Kapralov.

York City beat Arsenal in the FA Cup

Arsenal haven't lost to lower league opposition in the FA Cup during the Arsene Wenger era. Granted, there has been the occasional scare, but by and large the Emirates crowd not only demands, but expects victory.

The confidence in the capability of the current squad marks a stark contrast to the state of affairs in the early to mid eighties when the Gunners so often stumbled when it seemed, on paper at least, easier to stand tall.

For those who can stomach re-living one of the most harrowing defeats, the above video shows the solitary 89th minute goal which third division York City scored to down Arsenal in the 3rd round of the 1985 FA Cup.

Thierry Henry - The history of a legend

He came, he saw, he conquered. He left. He came back. He did it again. Thierry Henry - a living legend. Enjoy.

George Allison takes the reins

After the premature death of legendary manager Herbert Chapman in January 1934, George Allison took over from interim coach Joe Shaw the following summer.

In the above video, the BBC broadcaster-turned-football tactician outlines his hopes for the forthcoming season as the Gunners targeted a third successive title win.

Not only did Allison's esteemed squad deliver the goods that year, they added the FA Cup in 1936 and a fourth league title in 1938 before making their debut on the silver screen in the 1939 flick The Arsenal Stadium Mystery.

Some might say that's not bad for a sports journalist...
